Microsoft Windows 8

Windows 7 is great but Microsoft is still thriving to release its successor windows 8. The main difference is that it is more tablet optimized and is based off a different system kernel (no not popcorn) so the performance should be a bit better. Overall not much is different in all the current milestone builds the menu system is the same but windows taskmanager finally got revamped.

I don't think this is a worthwhile upgrade for standard users but for gamers and powerusers this i'm surely will be a must.

PC Tune up Tutorial PART 2

Here is part 2: The program featured in this post is called defraggler and like its name suggests it de-fragments your harddrive. Windows already has a built in defragmentation tool but its not a very effective one. This program will organize the files on your harddrive so that when you access them next they will load quicker because the harddrive head does not have to seek as much.

Download link:

This program is made by the same people as CCleaner so its a quality program!

Really easy program just click defrag and do a boot time defrag!

Beautiful new AMD HD 7970 Graphics card

AMD finally releases their brand new 7970 graphics card boasting a brand new architecture and a 28nm design. This will not only lower wattage but also make this card massively over-clockabale!  This new card will help out not only distributed computing groups but gamers all around because of its blazing performance (Most powerful single gpu card). I know I wont be getting this card because of its $450 price tag but the lower models are also 28nm so a great budget card is most likely going to be the 7870. Currently I own the 6870 and it's been working great so far but its always nice to upgrade.

Well have to see how Nvidia's 680 does but that's still months away.

BEST rechargeable AA batteries!

So during the holidays I'm sure allot of us blow through packs of AA's from taking pictures to power toys. I know my experiences with rechargeable batteries is that they just don't last. Sanyo's eneloop rechargeable AA's are supposed to last to 1500 charges! I just picked up a pack of these off amazon they received high remarks in the reviews so hopefully they live up to their reviews :)

Hapyy holidays!

Television / Computer monitor market scams

There are alot of scams these days when it comes to technology here are a few of the useless specs that companies love.

Refresh rate- 120hz does help a little but anything more is completely useless especially since almost all HD Boxes and gaming consoles only output at 60hz.

Response time- This used to be a huge deal when LCDs first came out and the response time was 15-25ms but now most modern PC monitors range from 1-8ms. Most IPS professional displays will have a higher response time but their image quality is much better.

Dynamic contrast- Dont even look at this spec its an utterly useless measurement of how much the display can dim its back light in dark scenes. I own two monitors a Samsung XL-2370 and a Dell U2311h the dell only has a 10k:1 contrast while the samsung has 5Million:1 and since the dell is an IPS panel display it has a much better image quality and produces much better darks.

Pocket HD cameras becoming obsolete?

With the huge market focus on implementing high definition cameras in cell phones the hand held pocket cameras are starting to become less popular. I do own a HD pocket camera myself but more than often I find my self recording whatever with my droid since it records in 720p and I have the convenience of showing my friends the video later.  What do you think?

USB 3.0 flash drives

With USB 3.0 finding its way into everyday devices several companies are now offering USB 3.0 flash drives which are great in general for storing files but with USB 3.0 now you can stream HD movies right off your flash drive without having to put it on your Harddrive first.

Chromium OS future of net books / Cloud based PC's

Google has been working on a new project called Chromium OS, a netbook centered operating system that boots up into a web browser. Yes no desktop, no icons, just imagine you open up google chrome on your computer and put it in full screen mode.  Google has many cloud based tools including word processors which make the “Browser Only” operating system useful. Besides the lesser functionality of a Windows PC this OS would be great for anyone frequently needing to hop on and off the internet quickly.  Personally this isn’t a game changer for me but It’s an interesting concept but I will stick with Windows 7 and the new windows 8 beta builds.
