My thoughts on the AMD HD 6870

I have been running an XFX HD 6870 for a little over a year now and its been through allot. From bitcoin mining to distributed computing and gaming. This card runs pretty cold idling at around 30C and under load from 60-70C. The fans on the xfx card are pretty quiet and currently I have it overclocked to 1000mhz from 900 stock. This will run battlefield 3 on High/ultra with no aa (need 2gb for that)

  2. Sweet setup man! You put my computer to shame. You couldn't even play Oregon Trail on this old thing.

  9. Alas my budget to upgrade also needs to fit in a CPU and Motherboard. Might be getting a 6850 instead.

  12. Looks like it can handle quite a bit of work then, would this still be a good choice for a computer nowadays? Or would you reccomend a more recent one?

    1. Eh with the new 7000 series coming out so soon I think its worth it to get at the very least 7850. But yea overall its a very decent card.

  23. That's a lot of lights in there, I try to keep my rigs low profile. I suppose that's just because I'm married or something, but the lights are distracting.
